Selling Cash Secured Puts for Consistent Income

Using Stock Options to Earn an Extra $1,000-2,000/mo

Selling Covered Call Options for Consistent Income

Disclaimer: This is not financial advice. I’m just explaining an additional way that people can generate extra monthly income. I would encourage you to only execute trades like this under the oversight of a experienced conservative trader.

A cash secured put is another way to generate consistent monthly option income.

This is how I’m generating the $1,000-$2,000 per month right now.

A cash secured put is an option trade where you earn a premium by committing to buy shares of a company at a lower price by a certain date.

Here’s an example:

  • XYZ stock is currently trading at $100/share
  • You want to own 100 shares of XYZ stock at $80/share
  • You have $80 * 100 shares = $8,000 available to make this purchase
  • You could sell a cash secured put option for a certain premium,

Using Stock Options to Earn an Extra $1,000-2,000/mo

Disclaimer: This is not financial advice. I’m just explaining an additional way that people can generate extra monthly income. If you were to become interested in options, I would encourage you to only execute trades like this under the oversight of a experienced conservative trader.

One of the most conservative options trades is commonly referred to as the “covered call.”

You’re committing to sell 100 shares of your stock for an agreed upon price during a certain length of time and you’re paid a premium for that agreement.

The mechanics are fairly easy to understand using an example:

  • You own 100 shares of a stock, let’s call it XYZ
  • You bought XYZ for $100/share
  • You sell a $110 call option which expires a month from now for $250 in premium
  • If XYZ is trading at or above $110 in a month, you’ve earned the $250 in premium p

Using Stock Options to Earn an Extra $1,000-$2,000/mo

Some of you read the title of this newsletter and might’ve gasped in disbelief.

Others read it and have no idea what stock options are.

Since this is a way that I’ve been producing recurring income for many months now, I wanted to share it with you.

Now, before I begin, I need to give a big disclaimer.

I am not a financial advisor. I’m not recommending you trade options. There is always a risk when you invest money in stocks or trade various derivatives.

I’m simply sharing with you a story of a way I’ve been making an extra $1,000-$2,000/mo with minimal time and effort.

Me and Simon share a variety of ways in this newsletter to generate extra income in your spare time. Not everything we share is something everyone should do. We’re just trying to help you see all the various ways to earn income on the side. We trust that through prayer and wise counsel you’ll determine which ways make the most sense to you.

Ok, having said that, I want to share what I’ve been doing.

A few ye

Thank You for the Courage!

general tentmaking Nov 28, 2025

As we celebrate Thanksgiving (my wife's American so I'm allowed - sort of), I just wanted to take a moment to say a genuine thank you.

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re someone who’s stepped out - maybe in faith, maybe into new territory, maybe just one small step at a time. Whether you’re juggling ministry, a side gig, or just exploring what “tentmaking” could look like in your own life, I want you to know how much I appreciate you.

It takes courage to step out. To try something new. To provide for your family while still following your calling. You’re not just making ends meet - you’re making an impact, both in your community and beyond.

It takes courage to do something different to the norm. To step out into a new (well, it's actually old) model of combining ministry and income generation.

It takes courage to face the questions, the doubts (both yours and others), the raised eyebrows and even the disapproving silence!

It takes courage to set a big goal. Small goals are...

How to Talk to Your Church Leadership About Your Tentmaking Plans (Without Freaking Them Out)

general tentmaking Nov 15, 2025

For many pastors, the scariest part of tentmaking isn’t choosing an income stream.
It’s telling their church and leadership team.

You might be excited about finally getting some financial breathing room
 but you’re also thinking:

  • “Will they think I’m less committed to the church?”
  • “Will they assume I’m planning my exit?”
  • “Will this damage trust with my elders, leadership team or board?”

And here’s the thing: if anyone in the church is going to hear criticism like,
“Why isn’t our pastor 100% focused on the church?”

it’ll usually hit your leadership team first.

That’s why how you communicate your tentmaking desires (or current reality) is absolutely crucial. Done well, your leaders can become your biggest defenders and advocates. Done badly, it can create suspicion, insecurity, and unnecessary tension.

Let’s walk through three key pieces:

  1. Why your leadership team must be in the loop
  2. How to start the conversation in a healthy, honouring way
  3. Common questions you’ll face -

The Importance of Being Invested in Equities

life hacking Nov 07, 2025

If you had invested a sum of money in US treasuries this year, your money would’ve grown about 4% so far this year. If you had invested that same sum of money in an S&P index fund, your money would’ve grown about 16%.

That’s 4x more.

This is a great reminder that over the long-term, equities (stocks & funds) do better than holding your money in cash-equivalents.

Are you benefiting from this year’s 4x increase over treasuries? I hope you are!

I’m not suggesting that all of your money should be invested in equities, of course. The percentage you invest will have to do with life stage, risk tolerance, and how soon you might need the money. You could consult with a fee-based financial advisor to sort out a plan for you or study up on your own.

But, suffice it to say, investing some percentage is likely a wise idea.

When you’re early in your career, it will likely be a much higher percentage than later in your career. And the percentage will likely go down even more significantly

Building the plane while flying it (and why that's okay)

Uncategorized Oct 31, 2025

"Come on in! If you don't mind helping me build a plane while flying it."

That's what Sarah said to Emma yesterday when Emma joined one of my communities.

Sarah had just shared that she was building an online course to help people get out of chaotic financial situations.

Emma replied

"My finances are just barely getting the bills paid, after that it's a mess đŸ˜” I've just joined your group"

And Sarah's response?

"Come on in! If you don't mind helping me build a plane while flying it."

I love this.

Because that's ministry, isn't it?

That's community.

That's life.

We're all building the plane while flying it.

I was talking yesterday with a guy who's now helped launched 50 groups of new believers in the middle east. It's the start of a movement. Yet when I quizzed him he's 'I really don't know what I'm doing'.

Here's the truth:

We don't need to have it all figured out before we help others.

We don't need to be perfect before we invite people in.

We just need to show up, be ...

Check For Retention Bonuses Before Canceling

travel hacking Oct 24, 2025

My wife’s AMEX Gold card had a $325 annual fee posted to her account today.

She got this card last year because it had a great welcome bonus & was well worth the $325.

Whenever an annual fee hits for a subsequent year, I always consider whether it’s worth keeping the card for another year or just canceling (you typically have 30 days after the annual fee hits to cancel the card & request a refund of the fee).

In order to make that decision, I check to see if there are any “retention offers” to keep the card.

Retention offers are additional bonuses the credit card company will give you to incentivize you to keep the card for another year.

They won’t always have these, but knowing whether you qualify will help with your decision about canceling.

After checking with AMEX this morning, they offered my wife an additional 20,000 points (~$200 in cash value or ~$400 when redeemed for travel) for $2,000 in spend over a 3 month period.

As you can see, it’s basically another welcome b

5 Skills Pastors Already Have (and How to Monetize Them)

Uncategorized Oct 17, 2025

If you're a pastor or in ministry and looking to boost your income, you might be sitting on a goldmine without even realizing it. The skills you use every week in ministry? They're often exactly what people are willing to pay for in the marketplace.

You don't need to learn something completely new or spend years getting another qualification. You just need to repackage what you already do and find the right audience. Here are five skills you probably already have, and how real pastors are turning them into income streams.

1. Counseling

You've been doing pastoral counseling for years. You know how to listen, ask the right questions, and help people work through their struggles. That's a valuable skill.

I know a pastor (actually more than one!) who'd been counseling people in his church for years but had never been formally qualified. He decided to get properly certified as a counselor, and now he has a successful private practice as a side income. He's still in ministry, but he's al...

Too Busy to Start Tentmaking? Think Again!

Uncategorized Oct 11, 2025

I hear it regularly from pastors and church leaders: "I'd love to start a tentmaking business, but I'm just too busy."

I get it. I really do.

Church planting, leading a ministry, shepherding a congregation - it's all-consuming. The demands on your time feel relentless. There's always one more person who needs you, one more crisis to manage, one more sermon to prepare.

But here's the truth I've learned after 20 years of coaching church leaders: if you're waiting for the "right time" to start, you're already too late.

Let me explain.

1. The Time to Start Is Now (Yes, Really)

I know it sounds like a cliché, but stick with me.

If you're thinking you might want a tentmaking income "one day," that day needs to be today. Here's why: it takes time to figure out what you actually want to do. Time to explore your options. Time to develop your skills. Time to find a coach or mentor. Time to build something sustainable.

The best time to do all of this? When you already have a secure income...
