More and more people are starting to earn money this way.
Many of them have a blog, or a newsletter, or a podcast, or a YouTube channel.
They also actively share helpful information on social media.
They have courses, ebooks, communities, and coaching programs.
And they often work from home and make money while they sleep. Pretty cool, right?
Having an online business can be a great extra stream of income to support your ministry. And it’s easier than ever to get started.
I started TentmakingPastors.com in 2020 to help pastors, missionaries, & Christian leaders earn extra money in their spare time to supplement or replace their incomes. And I’ve made so many new friends along the way. Plus it’s been a great extra stream of income for our family.
You may be thinking, “How do you even start an online business?”
That’s what I’d like to discuss in today’s newsletter.
The first and most important step is to figure out what people online are willing to pay to learn more about. Then, match one of those topics with a skill set you already have or would like to develop. Finally, start adding lots of value to people interested in that topic and eventually you’ll find that some will want to pay you to help them even more.
That’s pretty much the gist of it.
Not bad, right?
In my case, ministry leaders started approaching me asking if I would help them with Tentmaking. While I started helping a few leaders one-on-one, I realized the interest was going to scale beyond my ability to help like this.
A real estate mentor of mine had a podcast, an online course & a coaching community that was really helpful to me on my real estate journey. He was able to serve so many more people by developing online resources to help those of us interested in real estate.
I thought, “I should do this for pastors! I could help so many more this way!”
And TentmakingPastors.com was born.
I started a blog and posted free content each week to help ministry leaders with Tentmaking.
I built an online course to help ministry leaders take “nearly” free vacations.
Then I built a few courses to help ministry leaders make money in real estate.
But it all started with finding a topic that people would pay to learn about online.
Once you find that, it’s only a matter of time before you start building a side income serving those people.
