I had my meeting scheduled with the appraisal review board a few weeks ago and I was offered a $50,000 reduction in assessed value for my home before I even saw the Board.
That adds up over time.
Most years I get between $25-100k in reduction just by protesting my property value.
You’ve likely received your notice by now, and if you have, it’s a good time to try to get some tax savings through a protest.
In our county, you have the opportunity to request an informal meeting with an appraiser before you appear before the Board. I always request this. I find that the appraiser is eager to get a deal done because the Board is busy and gets backed up easily.
The last few years I haven’t even appeared before the Board as the appraiser typically offers me a reduction that’s worth taking. If I refused it for some reason, the negotiation starts over with the Board and they may not even offer you as much as the appraiser did. That’s why if you get a good deal up front, it’s wise to take it.
Property taxes, especially in Texas, are quite high. Every dollar of savings you can get is worth it!
If you protest this year & get a big reduction, definitely shoot me and email and let me know. I’ll be excited to celebrate with you!
